Show Notes

In this episode of the Us People Podcast. Jeff Boothe - Chief Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police Service and I have a calm conversation when we talk about:

  • The Importance of knowing your roots, his parents both being Jamaican and coming to London in the late '50s
  • He talks about being born and raised in Brixton
  • Seeing powerful black people in positions of authority, running their own businesses and him genuinely loving the experience of living in Brixton because of the culture & food
  • Having a cultural change as he and his family move
  • He talks about being lucky enough to receive a basketball scholarship and moving to America, which to him was life-changing
  • Joining the police service and why
  • We talk about being unconsciously incompetent but as time changes evolving and become consciously competent and more aware.
  • What a day in Jeff Boothe's life is like and how he deals with things
  • Wanting more people from different cultures and backgrounds to join the polices service
  • Going out into the communities and having challenging conversations with the public, but also talks to them about the positive side of the police service, and to talk to them about some fantastic opportunities career-wise.
  • We also talk about knife crime, diversity, some of the politics within the police service and so much more.

Jeff Boothe is a Chief Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police Service and he leads the Crime Prevention, Inclusion and Engagement Team (CPIE) at New Scotland Yard. He is currently leading on the MPS drive to increase the number of Black, Asian and Minority staff and Women being recruited into the service, by way of a coordinated Outreach approach.

 After 24 years' service with the British Transport Police, Jeff joined the Metropolitan Police Service to be part of the Commissioners 20/20 Change Programme and bring about lasting change to a global city. The borough has seen a 30% reduction in serious youth violence.

{Thank You So much, Mr Boothe, for being a guest, and teaching us about rebuilding trust, in our community, cultures and society}
